An Information Hub – Top Threats and Shared Defenses With Health-ISAC

Nov 12, 2025

“Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. One organization’s defense can strengthen an entire community.” – Errol Weiss

When it comes to healthcare, the phrase “we’re all connected” isn’t referring to shared data. It means shared responsibility. Talking with Errol Weiss, Chief Security Officer of Health-ISAC, reminded us just how intertwined our industry truly is. The systems that keep patients safe also rely on the strength of every partner, vendor, and organization in the network.

Errol broke down how Health-ISAC functions as an information hub for more than 1,000 organizations, sharing everything from threat intelligence to best practices. It’s a global collaboration that thrives because members trust one another to share, learn, and respond quickly. The group’s nonprofit model reinvests in services, building a “follow-the-sun” team of analysts from Florida to Europe to the Philippines.

Of course, there are also threats to be aware of such as ransomware, phishing, third-party breaches. And as we’ve discussed before, AI is changing the landscape. Errol’s perspective was both cautionary and hopeful. He sees AI as a tool that empowers defenders just as much as it enables attackers. The best defense is still grounded in fundamentals such as patching systems, using multifactor authentication, testing backups, and staying connected through information-sharing networks.

Cybersecurity success depends on community, not competition. Every alert shared, every insight exchanged, and every connection made contributes to a safer healthcare ecosystem. While the threats keep evolving, our greatest strength remains collaboration. Sometimes the best way to “shut the back door” is to make sure everyone’s watching it together.
