When we invited former Walt Disney Imagineering President Bob Weiss to join us, the first question many people asked was, “What does Imagineering have to do with healthcare security?” Within minutes the connection between his world of theme parks and creative magic to our world of healthcare security was undeniable.

Bob reminds us that both fields wrestle with challenges that often feel impossible. Everything from tight timelines, limited resources, and an expectation to protect what matters most. At Disney, he helped build a culture where safety and security were non-negotiable, woven into every meeting, design review, and project. That intentional culture shift mirrors what our own teams are striving for by making security a shared mindset rather than just a department.

One of the most powerful takeaways was Bob’s description of their intense, collaborative brainstorming sessions. It was when seemingly impossible ideas were welcomed and refined. Innovation often gets pushed aside in security because daily tasks feel so urgent. Bob showed us that giving people space to imagine freely can spark breakthroughs we didn’t know were possible.

We also talked about the importance of cross-disciplinary thinking and informal “hallway talk,” even in remote settings. Some of the best solutions come from the unplanned conversations and unexpected pairings of people who see problems from different angles.

Bob makes it clear that passion fuels innovation, and creativity isn’t a luxury. It’s essential. If Disney could make the impossible possible, maybe the next big leap in healthcare security starts with giving our people the same permission to dream boldly. Sometimes the biggest leap forward starts with asking, “What if?”
